About Karley Deering-Gardner, MA, LPC

karley M

y education consists of a Master’s in Counseling Psychology degree from Ball State University. My specialties include mental health, rehabilitation, and substance use prevention and education. I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings including home-based therapy, court systems, schools, and outpatient programs. I began my work with adolescents during my graduate school internship working for The Indiana Juvenile Justice Task Force supporting juveniles and family members in navigating their way through the justice system.

After graduating, I moved back to Michigan and continued to work with children and families to support their connection and healing with issues such as stable housing, severe mental health disorders, and behavioral modification. As my career path continued, I began working toward my substance use certification to better advocate for adults struggling with dual diagnoses within the court system

Some of the techniques that I have been trained in and find most helpful when working with individuals are: Parent-Management Training Module – Oregon (PMTO), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Person-Centered Therapy. I believe humans are incredibly resilient in times of stress, but even more so when acting toward personal change and growth. Communication is a gift we all hold which can assist us in having more positive and fruitful lives. My role is to help clients find their voice, feel empowered during daily interactions, and to become their authentic selves.

My goal is to offer individuals a safe space to come and not feel alone with daily struggles, as well as learn skills to better communicate with those most important to them. If you have come to a place in your life in which you wish to change, I believe you can do it with the strengths you already have! If you are unsure what those strengths are, I would love to help you find and embrace them!
