About Hannah Reed

nate I

attended Calvin University for my undergraduate education and graduated with a bachelors of Social Work and a Bachelors of the Arts (for majors in Psychology and French).  I completed my graduate schooling at Western Michigan University where I graduated with a Masters in Social Work as well as completing their Specialty Program for Alcohol and Drug Abuse which allowed me to also become a CAADC (Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor).  I spent several years in my early career working with children on the autism spectrum and most recently have worked primarily with teenagers struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders, conducting individual, group, and family therapy with these teens based on their needs.  I have also worked with youth involved in the criminal justice system who are on probation or in juvenile detention.

My goal in therapy is to provide a space that is safe, non-judgmental, and welcoming.  I am an LGBTQIA-welcoming counselor and have spent years learning about and engaging in anti-racism work and advocacy work regarding systemic injustice.  Providing culturally appropriate and supportive therapy is a high priority for me as a therapist.

The therapy I provide is informed by multiple modalities, including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Care.  I also believe in providing therapy that is strengths-based and client centered. I believe that you are the expert in your own life, so progress in therapy relies on a partnership and collaboration between my knowledge of therapeutic techniques and your knowledge of your own strengths and needs.  We will work together to make the changes you want and need to see in your life.

Specialty Training

It’s important to me to continue my education regarding topics that will keep me knowledgeable and trained in the areas that best serve you.  Here you will find areas that I specialize in and continue to maintain a high level of expertise.

USING YOUR INSURANCE?
If you decide to use your insurance benefits for “behavioral or mental health,” contact your insurance company and ask the following questions:

Do I have outpatient mental health benefits?
Do I have a deductible to meet for in or out of network benefits?
If yes, how much is your total deductible?

If yes, how much of the deductible has been met?

Can I be seen by a LLMSW, LMSW, TLLP, LLP, LLPC, LPC, LLMFT, LMFT, or PhD?
Does my insurance allow supervision by a PhD or LMSW?
Is my therapist in or out of network?
If my therapist is out of network, what will my insurance cover for out of network services?

How many visits am I allowed per year?
If there a limit on visits, how many have I used already?

What is my policy plan year (i.e., January to January or September to September)?
Do I need a referral or authorization in order to be seen for therapy or testing?
Will my insurance cover individual and group therapy are on the same day?
What is my copay amount per session?
